Described: The Effects of the SA vs. SL Test Series on India’s Prospects of WTC Final Qualification
Following a lopsided victory over Australia in Perth, the Indian squad now leads the WTC points standings, with Australia in second place.
India’s PCT is at 61.11, while Australia’s PCT plummeted to 57.69 following their defeat in the first Test.
India must win three of their final four games against the Australian team in order to safely advance to the WTC final.
This will ensure that they place in the top two and eliminate the need for them to rely on the other outcomes for their WTC prospects.
Before the New Zealand series, India had the upper hand, but a 3-0 thumping destroyed their hopes. From now on,
every Test match will be a knockout encounter for the Rohit Sharma-led team, which hopes to make it to the WTC finals for the third time in a row.
India will face South Africa and Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series that begins today if they are unable to defeat the Australians in three more Test matches.
What effects will the SA vs. SL Test series have on India?
If Sri Lanka wins the series against South Africa, their PCT will increase from 55.56 to 63.64, moving them up to third place, after Australia and India.
To ensure a spot in the top two in such a scenario, India will need to win at least two more Test matches. However, Sri Lanka’s PCT will fall to 45.45 and South Africa’s will increase to 63.33 if they win 2-0.
Given that they will be playing Pakistan at home next, South Africa will have a great chance to go to the WTC finals.
South Africa and Sri Lanka will have 54.55 and 53.33 PCT%, respectively, if the series concludes with a score of 1-1.
