After the IPL 2025 auction, there has been a lot of discussion over the Kolkata Knight Riders’ captaincy position. Under Shreyas Iyer’s leadership, KKR won the 2024 Indian Premier League, but the team

chose to cut the Indian batsman before the start of the following campaign. After the auction, Venkatesh Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane emerged as the two main candidates for the position of KKR captain. Even

though Rahane has more experience, Venkatesh is a strong candidate for the role given the Rs 23.75 crore price tag. Following the auction, KKR CEO Venky Mysore spoke candidly about the situation and gave a straightforward response to the captaincy dilemma.

You are aware of that, though. We need to sit down and take stock, to be honest. Sometimes, after completing all of these steps, you simply need to take a seat, think things through, and consider the

situation as a whole. A portion of the think tank will not be there, and there are stakeholders. According to the broadcasters, Mysore said, “So we will all sit down and have a proper conversation about that, and I am confident a proper decision will be taken.”

On Sunday, however, Venkatesh Iyer declared that he would be “more than pleased” to accept the captaincy assignment and succeed Shreyas Iyer.

At this major auction, the Shah Rukh Khan-owned team decided not to keep their 2024 IPL-winning skipper Shreyas Iyer and instead engaged in a fierce bidding war against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in an attempt to get Venkatesh.

After being acquired by KKR for a hefty sum, Venkatesh claimed, “I had the opportunity to lead the side in Nitish Rana’s absence when he was tragically injured, and I was the vice-captain as well.”

“I have always thought that leadership is about fostering an atmosphere where everyone feels like they can play for this team and contribute, whereas captaincy is merely a tag. I would gladly accept the responsibility if it were offered to me. Yes, I am prepared for it.
In the meantime, The Venkatesh

We will work together to keep up our winning streak and defend the title. I sincerely appreciate you including me in your team,” he continued.
