Complete list of fastest T20 centuries: Indian batter smashes 100 in 28 balls, unsold in the IPL

Urvil Patel, a 26-year-old Gujarati batsman and wicketkeeper, achieved the second-fastest T20 century in history in just 28 balls during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024–2025 match against Tripura.

With 58 balls remaining, Urvil, who opened the batting in Indore, put on a one-man show, destroying the Tripura attack and chasing down the 156-run goal.

He went undefeated in the eight-wicket victory with an innings that included seven fours and twelve sixes. He had a final strike rate of 322.86.

His opening companion, who scored 38 off 24, was much more subdued. Because the Gujarat Titans, who had purchased Urvil before

the 2023 season, let him go and there were no bidders during the massive auction in Saudi Arabia earlier this week, Urvil was

notably unsold in the IPL 2025 auction. He has not participated in an IPL match yet.

Urvil has made a good impression with his power hitting lately. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India’s domestic List A competition, he

hammered a century off of 41 balls last year after being released by the Titans. Only Yusuf Pathan’s 40-ball century from 2010 was faster

than this, making it the second-fastest List A century by an Indian hitter.

By the way, he received this knock precisely one year ago today from his List A ton in Chandigarh.

Sahil Chauhan of Estonia set the record for the fastest T20 century this year as well. Chris Gayle was the first player to make a T20 century in 30

balls or less before him (RCB against Pune Warriors, IPL 2013). Urvil is now on the list. It surpassed Rishabh Pant’s record from the 2018 edition

of the same competition, making it the fastest T20 century ever recorded by an Indian batsman. In the match between Delhi and Himachal Pradesh, Pant had taken thirty-two balls.
